Coming into this class, I knew I was going to face challenges. I am not the best when it comes to writing or journalism. I would say, the most difficulties I had with writing in JOUR-61 was with AP Style and inverted pyramid writing.

Prior to this class, I did not have writing experience with AP Style or knowing how to write in an inverted pyramid style. Growing up, I was never the best when it came to writing, but now I feel like I have improved to an extent. There were a lot of skills I didn’t know about and I found them to be really interesting after learning in this class.

I had a couple problems when it came to writing in an inverted pyramid format. It was difficult to learn in a virtual setting because it was my first time ever writing in this format. It was hard for me at times when determining which was the most and least important when writing inverted pyramid style.

I will still need to practice writing in AP Style and inverted pyramids. Those are the skills I need to foster in order to feel more confident especially when it comes to those kinds of writing tasks. Writing has never been my strong suit, so practicing will be something I will do to become more knowledgeable.

I would say, I have not yet fully learned AP Style writing, but throughout this semester I learned it through the slideshows, my peers, and the AP Style textbook. Additionally, Professor Saatsaz gives us the material and teaches the class to understand it more stronger.

I still need to practice on my writing skills, what I will be doing moving forward is go to the writing center for additional help. As well as challenging myself as an advertising student by writing in AP Style every month. I know this will help me in the long run with my respective field of study.

I can definitely say I’ve mastered the skills of writing on Medium, and searching for important verified sites online. When it comes to Social media it has always been something I’m familiar with, so it was something that came natural for me to use. The treasure hunt activity was an assignment I feel like I have mastered as well in regards to finding verified sources.

The writing style I enjoyed learning about was the digital aspect and interviews of journalism. I go on my social media often, especially Twitter and Buzzfeed, so having an assignment related to those outlets was great and enjoyable to do. When it came to interviewing, I also enjoyed it because I love interacting with humans and learning about them.

Overall, self-reflection can help me improve my writing so I can become better at it every time I write. When I am writing and if I know what I’m doing right or wrong, I can see what I can do better or continue to do if it is correct. If I do self-reflection more often, it will be easier for me because then I will be learning myself as I move along.
